Position Summary
Provide steam for campus heating systems and cooking. Maintain domestic water systems to federal and state standards. Install, maintain and repair all systems needed to provide these services. Provide oversight for all systems housed within the Power Plant building.
Essential Responsibilities
- Installs, maintains and repairs campus utility meters including reading and documenting water and condensate meter readings
- Installs, maintains and repairs campus boilers and systems including checking boiler water chemistry, performing inspections, and maintaining a clean and safe boiler working environment
- Installs, maintains and repairs campus steam distribution system including inspecting steam exchangers and maintaining condensate return pumps
- Maintains domestic water system to state and WWU standards including hot water exchangers, backflow prevention devices, and chlorine level monitoring
- Energy Management including maintaining energy management initiatives, gathering data for Clean Building Performance Standards compliance, and working with energy management vendors
- Maintains and repairs campus chillers and systems
- Inspects, maintains and repairs Power Plant and Campus tunnels
- Manages standby and emergency equipment for life safety including testing emergency generators bi-monthly
- Maintains compressed air systems and liaison with Ingersoll Rand for service contracts
- Provides rotational Facility Services on-call coverage for after-hours calls
- Works with HVAC&R in maintenance of chilled water distribution lines
- Works with outside contractors for Power Plant related jobs including scope of work development and bid comparison
Qualifications
- Education: Equivalent combination of education and experience in Mechanical systems/distribution. Preferred: Years of college course work in Mechanical Engineering
- Licenses/Certifications: Minimum Driver's License. Preferred: Energy Management experience/training, Welding Certification, Water System Certification and Boiler System Certification. Must obtain Boiler Operator Certification by end of first year of employment
- Experience: 3-5 years required, 5-10 years preferred

- Job-Specific Qualifications: Minimum proficiency with Microsoft Office, building automation systems, welding knowledge and skill. Preferred: Knowledge of programmable logic controls and electronic controls used in a boiler plant
Work Conditions
- Frequent: On-call/after-hours work, computer use, work with chemicals, driving/operating machinery, pushing and pulling 50-100 pounds, lifting and carrying 30-40 pounds
- Occasional: Travel, working more than 40 hours/week, weekend work
- Environment: Frequent indoor work with wet/dry conditions, cold/heat, noise/vibrations, fumes/dust/odors
