Position Summary

The Men's Assistant Volleyball Coach supports the Head Volleyball Coach in providing leadership and direction for the Walla Walla University volleyball programs. This role involves assisting with the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, fostering their skill development, spiritual growth, and character formation. The coach will contribute to practice and game planning to enhance team performance and program development, help secure non-league scheduling opportunities, and perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Recruitment of prospective student-athletes through identification, engagement, and implementation of recruitment programs (NCSA, FIELDLEVEL, Front Rush)
  • Monitoring student-athlete eligibility and progress via PlayNAIA website
  • Retention of current student-athletes through meaningful relationships and team culture development
  • Player development including spiritual, moral, and character development programs
  • Implementation of in-season and off-season skill development programs
  • Supervision of athletic development, injury prevention, and fitness activities
  • Work with Athletic Director and Champions of Character Liaison on character education and community service
  • Development and implementation of practice and game plans
  • Identification and securing of non-league contests
  • Collaboration with Sports Information Director and game-management coordinator
  • Attendance at coaching staff and one-on-one meetings
  • Representation of Walla Walla University values and mission

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • CPR certification required
  • 1-3 years experience (3-5 years preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and MS Outlook
  • Strong communication, collegiality, initiative, and coachability skills
  • Preferred: Proficiency with Front Rush and video scouting programs

Work Conditions

Frequent weekend work, on-call/after-hours work, computer use, and travel. Occasional fast-paced work and unscheduled interruptions. Frequent walking, standing, sitting, and reaching. Occasional pushing/pulling/lifting 50-100+ pounds.
