Position Summary

This position will oversee the men's basketball team and is responsible for instruction, coordination, recruitment, and development of the team. The position also entails supervising any individuals assisting with the men's basketball program in a subordinate role. The role includes monitoring all student-athletes in regard to NAIA and CCC eligibility and working with student-athlete academic advisors to track academic progress.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Formulate a successful philosophy to promote the educational welfare, sportsmanship, and spiritual development of the men's basketball student-athletes
  • Manage and supervise all activities of the men's basketball team, including planning practices, strength training, open gyms, and all other basketball-related activities
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all NAIA rules and regulations, Cascade Collegiate Conference obligations, and rules of the game
  • Recruit and vet all players joining the team
  • Collaborate with the athletic department on fundraising opportunities
  • Create a spiritual development and leadership plan for men's basketball student-athletes
  • Organize community outreach programs for the men's basketball team
  • Manage the budget for the men's basketball program
  • Track all players' academic success, NAIA eligibility, and progress toward a degree
  • Review student-athletes' academic progress reports and end-of-term grades
  • Develop policies and protocols for the student-athlete eligibility process in coordination with WWU's Faculty Athletic Representative, NAIA, and CCC
  • Serve as the point of contact for universities requesting the release of WWU student-athletes
  • Act as a liaison with student-athletes' Academic Advisors to ensure student-athletes are succeeding in class scheduling
  • Review and monitor daily academic progress reports
  • Oversee admissions and initial/transfer eligibility for prospective student-athletes
  • Interpret NAIA and CCC rules
  • Coordinate the NAIA Champions of Character program
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Athletic Administration preferred
  • AED First Aid and CPR certification required
  • 5-10 years of experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access)
  • Familiarity with NAIA rules and regulations
  • Strong communication, collegiality, initiative, and people management skills
  • Recruiting knowledge and strength and conditioning training background preferred

Work Conditions

  • Frequent: Travel, working more than 40 hours/week, weekend work, computer use
  • Occasional: On-call/after-hours work
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of 50-100 pounds
