Position Summary
The HR Generalist manages the daily operations of the Human Resources Department, assisting with the employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, and exit procedures. This position ensures data accuracy within the HRIS and communications, maintains federal and state compliance, and provides essential administrative support for benefits, risk management, and payroll coordination. Serving as a knowledgeable first point of contact, this role is vital to the efficiency and hospitality of the HR department.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serves as the primary point of contact for the Human Resources Department, providing accurate and timely communication to all inquiries
- Facilitates the approval process for all position changes, communicates and processes approvals
- Maintains employee files with accurate job descriptions and performs periodic audits for accuracy, proper storage, and disposal
- Maintains the HRIS database by ensuring all necessary changes are made promptly
- Facilitates employee relocations and processes reimbursement requests for candidate interviews, house hunting trips, and relocations
- Coordinates onboarding of all new employees, drafting offer letters, conducting background checks, employee eligibility verifications, benefits enrollment, and updates the HRIS system
- Works closely with payroll on accurate and timely exchange of information between human resources and payroll
- Ensures open job descriptions are promptly and accurately posted and removed once they are filled from all internal and external sites
- Updates web pages on the HR website as assigned
- Coordinates with key staff to schedule new hire orientations or other employee training
- Assists with tracking departmental and institutional metrics
- Processes position and reporting changes in the HRIS system
- Maintains service and department information annually for denominational licenses, credentials, and denominational yearbook
- Manages all necessary processes and communication for employee separation, including exiting employee checklists and updating the HRIS
- Responds to unemployment inquiries and disputes when necessary
- Assists in preparations and hosting social or other HR-related events
- Assists with employee-related complaints and investigations
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Orders office supplies and performs other office administrative tasks
- Updates poster compliance for all campuses
Qualifications
Education: Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Work, or related field preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years in human resources or office administration preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: PHR or SHRM certification preferred. PeopleSoft experience preferred.
Skills Required:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of new computer-based systems and applications quickly
- Basic math skills, accuracy, problem-solving, confidentiality, and self-motivation
- Strong attention to detail and confidentiality
- Excellent communication and customer focus
- Collegiality and ability to work with diverse groups
