Position Summary
Provides personalized financial counseling to prospective and current undergraduate students, guiding them on college financial planning and funding options. The role delivers individualized FAFSA support, assisting students and families with application completion, verification requirements, and professional judgment processes. The specialist also provides loan counseling, explaining borrowing options and helping complete required documentation. Serving as a liaison with federal systems and agencies, they manage data exchanges and processing through institutional platforms. Additionally, the position maintains financial aid website content, ensures compliance with consumer information requirements, and performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provides personalized financial counseling to prospective and current undergraduate students on college financial planning and funding options
- Provides individualized FAFSA counseling, assisting students and parents with completing FAFSA applications and coordinating with financial aid staff on professional judgments and verification requirements
- Provides individualized loan counseling, advising students and parents of loan options and assisting with loan documentation
- Serves as liaison with US Department of Education, COD Processing, NSLDS Processing Center, and EDconnect, managing data file exchanges
- Maintains and updates Student Financial Services pages on the university website and coordinates with College Raptor to maintain Net Price Calculator
- Maintains required consumer information related to financial aid and reviews validity of external scholarships before posting
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum BA/BS degree in Business or Computer Science preferred
- 2-3 years experience required, 3+ years preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Experience with PeopleSoft and/or Student Information Systems preferred
- Strong attention to detail, customer focus, clear communication skills
- Ability to work independently with a reasonable degree of independence
